Bellinger, Not Yelich for NL MVP. What The Fuck

Most Valuable Player. Say it with me: Most VALUABLE player.

MLB Network just announced that Cody Bellinger won this fucking award over Christian Yelich. This award shows the value of a player to a team, and that's where Yeli got screwed.

Lets go over the numbers:

Wins

LAD (106-56)

MIL (89-73)

First off is team record, obviously. The Dodgers put up an insane 106 win season which was a record for the franchise. That's pretty fucking impressive, but they arguably have the best roster in the MLB aside from the Astros (cheaters?). But as impressive as the 106 wins are, that Dodgers team likely wins around 100 without Bellinger recording an at bat.

The Brewers had somewhat of a down year coming off of last seasons historic NLCS run, only garnering 89 wins. 89 wins that would never have been possible without Yeli. The pitching this year was abysmal, and players like LoCain and Shaw didn't have the usual spark at the plate like we're used to seeing. I couldn't imagine a world where the brewers are above .500 if Christian doesn't play. He missed the last 18 games of the season, and the team went 13-5 without him, but I attribute that more to Counsell (who should've won Coach of the Year btw) and the pitching staff actually producing quality outings.

On Base Plus Slugging %

Bellinger (OPS 1.035)

Yeli (OPS 1.100)

As impressive as a 1.035 is over the course of the season, 1.100 is a hell of a lot better, there's no denying that. 1.100 is other-worldly. Yelich got on base on 42.9% of his at bats, while Bellinger only reached safe on 40.6%. It doesn't seem like a big difference but it is. Add in the slugging, and Yelich blew Bellinger out of the water.

Batting average

Belli (.305)

Yeli (.329)

Yelich ones again absolutely smokes Bellinger. Hitting above .300 is a rare feat in today's MLB of home runs and strike-outs, but hitting almost .330 is once again ridiculous. This dude gets a hit in 1 of every three at-bats, and fuck, Yeli raised is BA 3 points from is MVP season.

Home Runs

Bellinger (47)

Yelich (44)

Obviously Bellinger has the edge here, but is it really all it seems? Yeli hit a home run every 11.11 at bats this season, as apposed to every 11.87 at-bats for Bellinger. Yelich gets the edge here again. And let me remind you, Yeli won MVP last year with just 36 long balls. Imagine what he could've done in those last 18 games down the stretch. Combining his clutch nature with a wild card run would have been dangerous.

Stolen Bases

Bellinger (15)

Yelich (30)

You read that right. 30 to 15. I wasn't going to include stolen bases, but the difference is insane. This dude steals 2 bags for ever one of Bellinger's. Ri-di-cu-lous. And before I forget, this means Yelich joined just 11 other people in the 40-30 club. And he was the last to do it since a roided Braun did it in 2011.

So yeah, I'm biased toward Christian Yelich. The dude is a god among men in the city of Milwaukee and all of the MLB for that matter. He put up more than enough to win his second straight MVP, and I'm pissed off he didn't get it. But I have a reason to be biased, He crushed Bellinger in a whole load of categories AND the dude helps his team win more than anyone in the MLB.

Bellinger is an insane player, and he was going to win the MVP at some point in his career, but it shouldn't have been now. Not MY MVP. Not with the season Yeli had.

Ily Yeli
