The Wisconsin Badgers have won the Big Ten regular season. Who the fuck would’ve thought? The boys closed out a 4 (Moore) point win at Indiana to claim a share of the regular season title and secured the number one seed in the big ten tournament. What a better way to come back to the blogging game after a brief hiatus than the Badgers bullying their way to a Big Ten title?
Wisconsin (21-10, 14-6) won its final 8 games of the season including wins against Ohio State and Michigan. The boys are streaking, and playing the best basketball of their season at the right time. Remember when the Badgers went to the Barclays Center in late November and lose consecutive games against Richmond and New Mexico? Me neither. Then came the annual “Fire Gard” tweets, and for the first time ever, I was on board. It seemed like he was in over his head, but he had a reason to be. Gard dealt with the Howard Moore tragedy to start the season, the months on end of Micah Potter’s appeal to the NCAA (fuck u guys for real), and the (presumably) individualistic mentality of Kobe King, but through it all, he won the Big Ten.
The Badgers went 9-1 without King, who was the leading scorer on the team in conference play prior to his departure. As for Potter, the badgers finished with a 16-5 mark when Potter was eligible to play. Lastly the Badgers were 8-0 after introducing the alternate home jersey which paid homage to the 2000 final four team, damn those things are cold.
Wisconsin is a projected 4-seed in the NCAA tournament according to Joe Lunnardi (16th overall) and would face 13-seed New Mexico State in the opening round. But I have a feeling that the boys aren’t done yet. They play the winner of Michigan v. Rutgers at 11 a.m ct on Friday in Indy, which could lead to a potential Illinois rematch as well as the chance to play for the tourney title. If Wisconsin continues its streak all the way to the Tournament, could we be looking at a 3 seed? Anything to stay away from the 1’s (unless it’s Zaga, then we’re fine).

Only time will tell, but this is the best time. March. College basketball fans are about to endure a journey only made once a year. Maybe the best journey of them all. This is March folks, it’s time to get fucking excited.
